Fullerton owes its existence as it is today largely to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. In 1887, railroad promoters acquired the land in that area to facilitate the laying of the rails for that railway and it opened the way to new industry and enterprises that eventually replaced citrus groves and other agricultural activities in the city.

Oil production, transportation and manufacturing,(especially aerospace items), canneries, paper products manufacture and - of course -- the electric guitar, have all either come and gone or come to stay as the nature of the city changed over the years.

If you would like to meet one of the corps of traveling notaries in Fullerton to have important documents authenticated, you could have the business transacted in jig time and then take a little stroll into the city's earlier past, when saber-toothed tigers and mammoths roamed the area. Their remains are among the displays in the Ralph B. Clark Regional Park in the northwest section of the city.

The 1849 gold rush in California sparked settlement and development in many communities such as Fullerton, which could offer something more substantial to the gold-seekers than the elusive metal. Not the least of the attractions in that era was land. Migrant Americans bought acreage from rancho owners such as the Ontiveros family, who had been granted huge tracts as the Spaniards moved on.

At one time, Fullerton boasted more orange orchards than any other place in the United States. Walnuts and avocados also poured out of Fullerton plantations and into the pantries of people all across the country. With a burgeoning economy, the city incorporated in 1904.

So, that was then. What's is special about Fullerton today? One of its peculiarities is actually a holdover from 1924. You can't park overnight on any of the city's streets, even today. But you can park yourself at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center for any of the five yearly concerts. Or steep yourself in the punk rock scene at the University of California/Fullerton, which was a hotbed of the genre not so long ago.

Since 1980, G&L (George Fullerton and Leo Fender) has pumped out guitars that find their way around the world. Fender is given credit for revolutionizing the music industry. as the guitar became the instrument of choice for thousands of performers.

The performing arts are diverse here, with such entities as Fullerton College and the Fullerton High School's Academy of the Arts sharing stage time with several storefront theaters on the community calendar. On a more formal basis, the Clayes Performing Arts Center caters to a variety of stage genres, all of them in a comfortable setting that invites returns.

More than 50 city parks give you a great choice if you choose to meet out-of-office with a Fullerton mobile notary before settling in for a family outing. If the park party is a celebration noting the departure of one of your children for an extended overseas visit, for instance, the notary can put his or her seal to a document that authorizes someone other than a parent to travel with that under-aged child. Or take time to smell the roses in the Fullerton Arboretum in celebration of the sale of your home. (That's another set of documents the notary can help you with.)

Matador Cantina is an authentic Mexican restaurant that harks back a couple of centuries. It features a drinks list with a significant collection of tequila-based cocktails, beers and wines from around the world. This is just one of a long list of places to eat and drink while you're in Fullerton, with specialties ranging from pizza to pasta and beyond.
