| La Habra is in the North Western section of Orange County, California and shares its name with a city in neighboring Los Angeles County, California known as La Habra Heights. According to 2000 census data, La Habra has a population of 58,974. This city became incorporated in 1925 with a population of 3,000 residents, and over the next 25 years the population nearly doubled to 5,000. The median income ranges from $47,652 for households and $51,971 for families, with males making about $6,000 per year more than females. Per capita the income is close to $19,000. The city is made up of 7.3 square miles of area, all of which is land. President Richard M. Nixon opened his first law office in the City of La Habra which was demolished in 1990 to make room for the city’s new Civic Center expansion. The City of La Habra was home to a famous tree known as Hass Avocado Mother Tree, planted accidentally by Richard Hass in the 1920’s. This tree was a major part of La Habra culture and history for over 70 years providing plenty of avocado fruit until it finally gave way to root rot in 2002.
