It is located about seven miles away from (to the ease of) another small city in Ventura county, called Fillmore, in the Santa Clara River Valley. Lake Piru serves as the city's main attraction and source of recreation. The city's land area is slightly larger than its neighboring city of Fillmore, coming in at 2.3 square miles (.43% of which is water), making it about .2 square miles larger than Fillmore. Despite the city’s small size in both area and in terms of citizens who live there, Piru has been the filming site for many of the popular television shows and movies we see today, including scenes from Murder She Wrote, Dukes of Hazzard, and Ghostbusters the Movie, to name just a few. The area was originally home to the Tataviam Indians, who left carvings of information about themselves all throughout the local mountains. | |
