The population of Somis as of 2000, is close to 3,000 people. Due to its small size in both land area, and population, combined with the unincorporated status the area is primarily an agricultural area. Even though there is no formal local government because the town is so small, it does have a fire station and a post office. The other highlights of the area include Somis market, which contains shopping and a Mexican restaurant. The Police and Fire needs of the area are supported and serviced by Ventura County Sherriff’s Department and Ventura County Fire Department. The only school within the Somis area is a school that caters to a K-8 grade range, and the high school for the area is actually outside of Somis itself.
