Lakewood has, with good reason, been dubbed one of California's "instant cities." It went from lima bean fields in 1950 to a well-developed city by 1960, an example of the advent of post-World War II American suburbs.

It took noted developers Louis Boyar, Mark Taper and Ben Weingart, who "altered forever the map of southern California," a relatively short time to see the possibilities of Lakewood and put together a plan for a community. The development broke records and garnered national attention. A new house was ready for marketing every 7.5 minutes, 40 to 60 per day. The record was 110 in one day. In 1953, the community had three choices: be annexed by Long Beach; stay unincorporated; or incorporate. Voters chose the latter and Lakewood became the first in the country to incorporate but continue to contract for public services. Police and fire services are provided by Los Angeles County. The move set a standard that is followed by many of the Los Angeles suburbs.

Among other claims to fame: This is the birthplace of the Denny's Restaurant chain. It was here that Danny's Donuts, predecessor of the Denny's as it is known today, became popular. Who could pass up the opportunity to combine a visit to this hometown favorite with a session with one of the local traveling notaries? This cadre of dedicated professionals are well versed in all of the laws that regulate notary activities. They have the authority to witness signatures and add their official seals to a great variety of documents that require such attention to be legal.

Besides a history that still includes the popular slam-bang Grand Slam Breakfast, the restaurant was noted in the early 1990s as the place where anyone noting a birthday was treated to a free meal. The honoree could select from a specially designed birthday menu. The thing caught on so well that the restaurant eventually had to require documentation of the birth date to keep people from showing up several times for the free grub.

The restaurant no longer provides free birthday meals, but that shouldn't keep you from lining up with other fans for a special meal that includes your friend the mobile notary. Imagine how good you'll feel when your tummy is full and your mind is empty of the stress of having an unsigned document granting power of attorney to a trusted family member. That pesky power of attorney has been hanging fire for weeks awaiting the official seal that makes it legal. Now you can relax knowing that if for any reason you are unable to make decisions for yourself someone has been authorized to make them for you. Such is the power of a document handled by a notary.
