Newhall, California, has several claims to fame. It is the oldest and the first permanent town in the Santa Clarity Valley. It also boasts the old Pioneer Oil Refinery, the oldest surviving refinery of its type in the world and the first to become a commercially successful venture of the kind in California. Each April, a new honoree is added to the walk in conjunction with the annual Cowboy Festival, which makes Newhall the "Wild West" of today for several days each year.
