Several presidents, including Ford, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon were guests at Sunnylands over the years. Former President Barack Obama staged several summit meetings with world leaders at the resort. The importance of the estate to the economic well-being of the city was noted in a declaration in 1990 that recognized it as a historic site.
