Seal Beach, a small city in Orange County, has all of the things you might expect to find in a California coastal community: Water recreation opportunities, wildlife areas and facilities for seagoing craft. In this case, it is the United States Navy Naval Weapons Station Seall Beach. During World War II, it was a busy port for the Pacific Fleet, loading and loading ships and providing ammunition as they sailed in and out of active war zones or laid over in other ports. Today, with the closing of other facilities on the Pacific, it is the primary munitions source for the entire Pacific Fleet.

The presence of the naval base has some effects on access to sites such as the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge welcomes many species of birds, particularly seabirds, including at least three that are endangered. But with heavy development in the area, some other refuges have closed, making this refuge a prime attraction for bird watchers. Sadly, base activities take precedence and the refuge is only open to guests on a limited basis, usually once a month.

So if you're a bird fan with the patience to await the next opportunity, make good use of the time to meet with one of Seal Beach's mobile notaries. Get an official seal on deeds, power of attorney documents, living wills and a will arranging for the distribution of your property after your demise, etc. etc. etc. and you'll be ready to give your full attention to the birds when it is possible.

Possibly you'd like to meet with the mobile notary at the Seal Beach Pier, the second longest in California. (Oceanside has the longest.)That's possible, because these fully-trained notaries are available to meet you at a time and place of your choosing. This pier is a lesson in survival. It Several times, it has been severely damaged by pounding Pacific storms or other mishaps and come back to serve the area. In one instance, the local City Council announced it could not afford a replacement after storms damaged the pier in 1983. Public pressure was immediate and the council reversed its decision based on promises of help from the community. Eventually some $2.3 million in public and private donations bolstered the council's resources enough to rebuild the beloved pier.

Contemporary music buffs will be delighted to know that progressive rock/post-hardcore band RX Bandits, has a Seal Beach studio for its Mash Down Babylon Records label. It is located in a garage known as The Elizabethan. It was founded by Matt Embree, lead vocalist and guitarist for the Seal Beach-located group.

Seal Beach is a surfers' Mecca, with prime conditions for the sport in Stingray Bay, the mouth of the San Gabriel River.

If you want a unique place to hang out for a few days and see all that Seal Bay has to offer, book yourself at the Water Tower House, an 87-foot tall residence that was made from a 19th century wooden water tower. Expect to pay some $3,500 to $4,000 per week. Originally, the tower was built to supply water for railroad steam engines. It held some 75,000 gallons, so had plenty of reserves to meet the need. What makes it worth the price for a short stay is the 360-degree view from the entertainment room a 175-gallon fish tank, a home movie theater and a couple of Jacuzzis.

Another relic from Seal Beach's railroad era is the Red Car Museum on Electric Avenue. It features a restored Pacific Electric Railway Red Car. Nice history and less expensive. Also, a nice recognizable address where one of Seal Beach's traveling notaries would be happy to meet you to conduct essential business. See? Seal Beach really does have it all.
