The City of Aliso Viejo is located at the southern end of Orange County, California and was incorporated in 2001 though it had been around since about 1990--making it the 34th city in Orange County. Neighboring cities are Laguna Hills, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, and Laguna Woods. The city was projected in 2007 to have reached a population of 48,000. The city is about 6 square miles in area and is full of trails that connect to nearby cities like Dana Point, the Santa Ana Mountains, and Laguna Beach. The city is located less than 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean which makes it an excellent vacation spot for many tourists and many locals live on the beach. In Aliso Viejo, you are only 25 miles from Disneyland, and about an hour away from the nearest international airport while only 15 miles from the regional airport that serves the citizens of Aliso Viejo. Median incomes range from $76,000 and $84,000 depending on status as household or family. Several large companies call Aliso Viejo home like: Buy.com, Ketel One Vodka, Marie Callender's restaurant chain, and USWeb the popular internet Marketing Company. Since its inception, Aliso Viejo has been no stranger to controversy dealing with things such as a homicide/suicide by a local high school student, banning high school dances, and almost banning Styrofoam cups due to an unsafe chemical becoming part of their production. Still though, this does not make Aliso Viejo a bad place to live and it being a new city means that it has a lot of catching up to do.
